2013 SEASON

5-19-2013 Most of the area lakes ice went out on Tuesday 5/14/2013. 40+mph wind and 87 degrees helped

rid the lakes of their winter's hard water. A week later then normal, the tactics are the same as opening.

Find the warmer water in the mornings and early evening for Walleye. Jigging seems to do the best right now.

Cass Lake Report…7-21-12…Summer patterns have pretty much taken over on Cass Lake for the past couple of weeks.  The surface temps have been in the 76-80 degree range lately. Most of the walleyes have been holding just off the edges of the bars anywhere from 6-15ft of water. The most active fish have been shallower and the less active a little deeper.

The walleyes have been hitting on a variety of methods. Spinner/Bottom Bouncer combinations have been working well. I have been doing pretty well with a 4ft crawler harness and #4 hammered gold blade. The walleyes are definitely still liking leeches also. A plain live bait rig with a #6 or #8 hook and a 6ft leader or so has been working good too.

The best days are definitely ones with a fairly steady wind in the 10-20mph range. The walleyes are scattered in small pods along the breaks and depending on the wind direction certain breaks are much better than others on any given day. Any break that the wing has been hitting into for a day or two will most likely work best.

The jumbo perch action has been pretty decent this past week also. Most of the nicer sized perch seem to be holding right along the edges of the bars also. The nicest perch this past week came from the 10-13ft range.

Good Luck to all & take care……Chad

Cass Report…7-1-12…Sorry everyone about the lack of updated fishing reports! It’s been a busy June and the two little ones keep me pretty busy when I get home. Overall it has been pretty good walleye fishing on Cass for the last month. There were a few slow days here and there but on the most part pretty decent walleye action. The mornings have probably been the most consistent on the most part. Wind has been pretty important the past couple weeks also. No wind and a tough walleye bite, get a decent chop and the numbers go up substantially.

For the most part the best action has been in the 12-15ft range out on the bars. The walleyes are schooled up pretty good now, and to get any decent action you have to pinpoint the schools and keep pulling leeches, crawlers, minnows etc..through them until the action slows down and then move on to next spot. I’m sure the night fishing will be pretty good this week with the full moon falling on July 3rd. I haven’t talked to many people that have pulling plugs after dark but it usually works pretty well on Cass.

The jumbo perch action was pretty good this past week also. The fish were schooled up in the 12-15 depths along the bars.

Happy 4th of July and take care…..Chad

Cass Lake Report…5-21-12…The walleye fishing on Cass has been good to excellent since the opener. I have also been hearing many good reports from most of the lakes on the chain.

Most of the fish I have been catching on Cass Lake have been out on the main lake bars such as Cedar and Buck Bars. Many good reports have been coming from people fishing the shoreline points as well. Working the breaks in 12-22 feet of water with a leech or shiner has been working well for me and my clients. We have been mostly live bait rigging with a 6ft leader, but jigging has been working well for many people as well.

The surface temps have been ranging in the 55-60 degree range depending on the time of day. I would say we are about two weeks ahead of schedule as to fish locations and surface temps. Once we start getting a consistent 60 degree surface temp there will be a good shallow water walleye bite as the shiners move in to spawn. This will probably happen later this week I am guessing.

Lake Bemidji has also been producing very well since opening day. I fished out there the past couple of days and caught very good numbers of eating sized walleyes, with a few bigger fish showing up as well. The 6-12ft range has been producing most of the fish out on Bemidji.

Hope everyone had a great opener & Good Luck!! ……..Take Care…..Chad
